Acetyl-coa is then put into a Krebs Cycle in liver cells in order to produce energy.
But your body can’t do this cycle right now! Why?
Remember the substance called oxaloacetate that I mentioned above? This substance also happened to play a big role in the Krebs Cycle. This means, in order for the Krebs Cycle to function, oxaloacetate must be prevented to turn into glucose.
Now your liver is packed with Acetyl-coa, which will be broken down into two substances – acetoacetate and 3-hydroxybutyrate, or also known as ketone bodies.
This substances travel to your bloodstream where other non-liver cells use them. Ketone bodies are then converted back into Acetyl-coa, then to Krebs Cycle where energy is produced.

First off, this cycle helps to improve your brain function. Since our brain uses glucose too, it can highly benefit using ketone bodies as well.
In fact, ketone bodies provide more energy per gram for your brain versus glucose, so ketogenic diet is truly a blessing for your brain health.
This is the reason why keto diet was proven effective in treating epilepsy in the 1920’s and in this year alone, a keto diet study showed that it helped reduce type 2 diabetes and weight gain risks.
For weight loss, there are hypothesis that people burned more calories in a much faster pace which resulted to more fat loss.
But these are just hypothesis and many diet experts have debunked these weight loss claims suggesting that a conventional diet will do to help people lose weight.

Foods that you can eat include eggs, cheese, fatty meats, fish, oil, butter, leafy green vegetables, bacon and many others.
Just remember that your goal is to get your body into a state of ketosis, which is a process I explained above.
Is Ketogenic Diet for You?
With its low-carb diet requirement, it is easy to say that keto diet is under the “extreme” diet plan category.
And the more difficult a diet plan is, the less likely a person to stay on track. Diet experts say that the average period a person can stay on a keto diet is no longer than 5 months.
